https://www.jlpt.jp/e/samples/sample09.html (English) Skilled people in languages are good at using different styles and words depending on the situation. In order to do so, the fundamental is that your knowledge of the language is rich. Rich knowledge makes you smart and gives people a good impression on you. You can talk about deep topics and various topics, so your network will be larger. That is, people who can use different styles and words are good at communication. How do we acquire vocabulary and grammar, then? The answer is to deal with materials that you are not familiar with in your life. Your language skills will stop growing if you have conversations and exchange messages only with the same people, avoid dealing with what you don't understand, try to express yourself with body language and your original onomatopoeias. How do we take in non-familiar materials? What I would like to recommend is to read exercise books for N2 reading. I haven't found any other material that deals with different topics written by so many different authors in different styles of which each (part of ) essay is complete in one page or so and is full of new vocabulary for you. You can see references in the end of many of the articles and essays in N2. It means that these are raw Japanese reading materials that Japanese people (from middle school, high school students to adults) normally read. There are a few of such in N3, but only a few. So the difference between N3 and N2 is that N3 level is not high enough to read raw Japanese articles and stories but N2 level is. I understand that you don't always have a chance to take notes of what you hear but don't understand in conversations. But books can wait for you. You can look up the word in your dictionary or take notes. It is also important to look back at what you have written in the past. Generally, learners who avoid reading and writing don't grow. There are kanji characters in Japanese language, so the difference of growth between learners who do it and who don't is obvious. If you wonder what level your Japanese is at, try solving practice tests starting with N5 (the lowest) on the official JLPT website. https://www.jlpt.jp/e/samples/sample09.html

I teach students in different levels - beginner to past N2 (aiming at N1). Not every student wants to take the JLPT, but I sometimes explain Japanese language proficiency by the JLPT levels. I would like you to know that what I am going to say is based on the precondition that every learner has a different goal and what level of Japanese he needs is different. If you don't work in a Japanese-style company, being able to use N3 level (not just passing N3, but BEING ABLE TO USE everything up to N3) is enough for communication in your life. People who grew a lot until they passed N3 and are planning to pass N2 have often difficulties to make progress. They don't feel they are improving, or they feel they are forgetting what they learn because they don't use it. So let's check if any of these applies to you. ・I stopped studying with a textbook after I finished basic textbooks ・I stopped taking notes of words that I hear or read for the first time ・I am accustomed to the environment that I am in now (in Japan) ・When I want to say something, I often re-phrase it with words I know ・When I want to explain something, I use my smart phone to show pictures or words translated into Japanese instead of verbalizing it by myself ・There are limited number of people that I often talk with ・I think my Japanese is wrong sometimes, but people around me don't correct it Do you have at least one that applies to you? Do you feel that your Japanese has stopped improving? The rest of the article will be uploaded in two days. 皆さんこんばんは。梅雨に入りましたね。 今日はひとつ、梅雨に役立つ商品を紹介しようと思います。 Good evening. The rainy season has come. I'd like to introduce one product that is handy in such a season.
This is a non-mechanical dehumidifier. When you buy one, take off the top plastic cover. Put the paper cover on it and place it in your closet or the space under the sink. The chemical agent in the top half space absorbs water in the air and water is accumulated in the bottom half. You can find them at drug stores or big supermarkets. Usually a set of 3 pieces costs about 200 yen. They are cheap, and absorbs very well. You will find the tank (400ml to 500ml) filled with water in 2-3 weeks. How moist the air is, eh? When the tank is full, remove the paper cover, open the lid with scissors or something. Dump the water. Rinse the plastic and throw away as plastic trash. 初中級レベルの間違いでよく間違えられてしまう2つの文法を紹介します。 Here is one grammar mistake caused by upper elementary level students, confusing two phrases. ~てもいいですか Can I/May I ... ? In some cases Can we...? ~てくれませんか Can you/Will you ...? ”~てくれませんか” の代わりに ”~てもいいですか” を使う間違いがあります。 Often ~てくれませんか is replaced by ~てもいいですか. ”~てもいいですか” は 自分だけ、または自分を含めたグループにしか使いません。 誰かに何かしてほしいときは、”~てくれませんか” を使います。 "~てもいいですか" is used to ask for permission for you only, or for a group including yourself. When you want someone to do something, use ”~てくれませんか.” 練習: 日本語でどう言いますか。 Practice! How do you say the following sentences in Japanese? 1. Can you explain it one more time? 2. Can I show you photos of my family? 3. Can we take food into the karaoke room? 4. Can you wait a moment? 答えは"Read more" をクリックしてみてくださいね Click "Read more" for the answers |
