Just recently, I noticed something interesting. I have known the words, but never paid attention to them. In Japanese, we have two different words for "corner", 角 Kado and 隅 Sumi. We use them differently depending on the perspective. If you see the "corner" from outside (no matter if the object has space inside it), it's 角. If the "corner" is IN a closed space, it's 隅. Ex 1. Hitotsume no kado o migi ni magatte kudasai. Please turn right at the first corner. Ex 2. Beddo no kado ni ashi o butsuketa. I hit my foot on a corner of the bed. Ex 3. Heya no sumi ni ranpu ga aru. There is a lamp at the corner of the room. Ex 4. He always has lunch at the corner of the classroom. My husband told me that they use the same word for "corner" in his language. If you know any language that has two different words, please let me know! I got two days off yesterday and today after a very busy week!
It had been super hot until yesterday. Was everyone alright? Last week I got to know new people and learned a lot at work. The job involved many people so I'll keep the content of the job secret. It was about languages. It's always fun to use language skills. I learned so many new words. Yesterday and today I went to supermarkets and you you Kumamoto for grocery shopping. I even baked green tea chiffon cake yesterday. (see the picture) It was for tea time yesterday and today. Okay, I'll work hard from tomorrow again! (English below)
I haven't been able to post anything since the last blog post because I have got job offers and more lessons recently and also have things to do outside my place. I'm hoping to post something next week... Oh yes, and I have got oral herpes on my lip supposedly because of stress and exhaustion. I've been busy, but having fun. Nothing to worry about! What I need to do right now is... to think about tomorrow's box lunch and dinner, prepare lunch halfway tonight. (English below)
I usually tie my long hair with a hair band, but today I didn't. Student: Oh, nice hair. Me: Thank you. I didn't do anything special, though. Student: Is it your natural straight hair? I wish I had it, too. She has a slightly curly hair and uses a hair iron sometimes. My hair is quite straight and I don't need to do anything when it's long. I spent some money to get my hair curled once when I was a student, though. Crying for the moon in Japanese is "ないものねだり (naimono-nedari)". "nedari" is from "nedaru", which means asking someone in an intimate relationship for something like a spoiled child. But I guess it's our nature to want something that we don't have but someone else has... (English under each paragraph) The Golden week is over. I didn't go for a trip, but I did such things as having my family over, playing board games with friends, having lessons (but less than usual). I think my Golden week was good and relaxing enough. The weather was great in the second half of the week, so my husband and I went to Foodpal Kumamoto (フードパル熊本) to see roses in the garden.
You can get there in about 30 minutes by car from Chuo-ward, Kumamoto city. Most roses were in full bloom and they were colorful. So beautiful! We had lunch at the restaurant in Nagata pan (永田パン) store. You can have as many rolls and cakes as you want if you order a meal. There are about 10 kinds of small rolls and 5 desserts such as cakes and fruits and jelly. Both my stomach and my eyes were happy and satisfied! (English below)
Everyone, please welcome the new era, Reiwa! Now I tried typing "reiwa 令和" and it came out as one of the suggested kanji. I don't think it was there before.... when has it been added? It's easier to type 令和 now. By the way, because of the rain that has been falling for three days, the laundry hung up in the balcony never dried up. So I went to a laundromat nearby to dry it. I didn't think I would use it until the rainy season! By the way, the "dryer" to dry laundry is 乾燥機(かんそうき) in Japanese. The hair dryer is ヘアドライヤー in Japanese. Just ドライヤー is fine, too. Also, time schedule for buses and trains and other transportation is 時刻表(じこくひょう), and time schedule at schools or for lessons is 時間割(じかんわり). |
