https://www.jlpt.jp/e/samples/sample09.html (English) Skilled people in languages are good at using different styles and words depending on the situation. In order to do so, the fundamental is that your knowledge of the language is rich. Rich knowledge makes you smart and gives people a good impression on you. You can talk about deep topics and various topics, so your network will be larger. That is, people who can use different styles and words are good at communication. How do we acquire vocabulary and grammar, then? The answer is to deal with materials that you are not familiar with in your life. Your language skills will stop growing if you have conversations and exchange messages only with the same people, avoid dealing with what you don't understand, try to express yourself with body language and your original onomatopoeias. How do we take in non-familiar materials? What I would like to recommend is to read exercise books for N2 reading. I haven't found any other material that deals with different topics written by so many different authors in different styles of which each (part of ) essay is complete in one page or so and is full of new vocabulary for you. You can see references in the end of many of the articles and essays in N2. It means that these are raw Japanese reading materials that Japanese people (from middle school, high school students to adults) normally read. There are a few of such in N3, but only a few. So the difference between N3 and N2 is that N3 level is not high enough to read raw Japanese articles and stories but N2 level is. I understand that you don't always have a chance to take notes of what you hear but don't understand in conversations. But books can wait for you. You can look up the word in your dictionary or take notes. It is also important to look back at what you have written in the past. Generally, learners who avoid reading and writing don't grow. There are kanji characters in Japanese language, so the difference of growth between learners who do it and who don't is obvious. If you wonder what level your Japanese is at, try solving practice tests starting with N5 (the lowest) on the official JLPT website. https://www.jlpt.jp/e/samples/sample09.html
