Good evening! Last year I introduced some food for summer. Today I'll introduce two more vegetables. It's called "the King of vegetables" as it has a lot of nutrition. Rich in vitamins. When you cut it, slimy juice comes out from the cut surface. It is good for a stomach which lost the internal barrier. Jew's mallow contains a lot of calcium (9 times as much as spinach has). If you want to take the calcium effectively, eat it with food that has vitamin D, for example mushrooms. It's also good to make soup with finely chopped jew's mallow. Note: Do not cut it before boiling because nutrition would come out. Boil first, then cut if you do not use the water for boiling afterwards. A vegetable eaten in Japan since more than a thousand years ago. Its smell and taste are a little similar to ginger, but it's not as spicy as ginger. The component of the smell is called alpha pinene, which promotes appetite and digestion. It is good to be eaten raw, so I recommend that you chop or slice it and put on soumen noodles or tofu, or put on miso soup just before you eat it.

Good evening. The rainy season has come. I'd like to introduce one product that is handy in such a season.
This is a non-mechanical dehumidifier. When you buy one, take off the top plastic cover. Put the paper cover on it and place it in your closet or the space under the sink. The chemical agent in the top half space absorbs water in the air and water is accumulated in the bottom half. You can find them at drug stores or big supermarkets. Usually a set of 3 pieces costs about 200 yen. They are cheap, and absorbs very well. You will find the tank (400ml to 500ml) filled with water in 2-3 weeks. How moist the air is, eh? When the tank is full, remove the paper cover, open the lid with scissors or something. Dump the water. Rinse the plastic and throw away as plastic trash. The other day, I saw a note of expiration dates of emergency foods and noticed that some are already expired. They looked and smelled okay, so we ate them. We bought new items and marked on a calendar about the closest expiration date of food. We've decided to buy a new one when the day comes close, consume the old one , check the conditions of the other foods and take a note of the next closest expiration date. How about you? Do you have emergency food prepared at home? Since I have experienced the earthquakes in Kumamoto in 2016, I know how important it is to have goods and food for emergency. Do we need to have some special items? How much of what items do we need to prepare? To be honest, the more is the better. But I understand that we have to consider the space in our home for those things. We for example, have one bag of emergency goods at home and another one in our car. They are from different makers. As for food, we have the followings near the entrance. See the photo.
Cooked rice you can eat by heating up in microwave or hot water You can immediately eat the corn, tuna and seasoned chicken. No need to cook. You can easily find them at supermarkets. Canned bread can be found on the internet shops or in large supermarkets. The vacuum-sealed cooked rice in the photo is just one of many types in supermarkets. The point is that you need to choose products that you can eat with a very few steps of cooking or without cooking and products that last long. Basically canned foods last for over a year. Vacuum-sealed cooked rice last at least a half year. There are other foods that are good as emergency foods. I will let you know when I write an article about it. To be honest, when the first big earthquake occurred four years ago yesterday, April 14th, I thought that was it. I worked normally the next day, talked with people about the previous night's earthquake, had meals, and went to sleep.
In the middle of the night of April 16th, we had the second big earthquake. We got out of the apartment, looked around how people were doing. I tried to reach my families who live in other cities, but the line was always busy because everyone was calling someone else. The ground shook again and again. That was when we decided to go evacuate somewhere. We took a tablet, internet device, phones, cash and towels and some blanket, I think. If an earthquake at the same level happened now, I would take an emergency bag, food stored near the bag, a jacket, phones, cash, wear thick sneakers, turn off the electricity breaker, turn off the gas and go. I would not call anybody on the phone because the line would be busy. Big earthquakes are never things that I want people to experience, but I'm glad that I know now what to do when one happens. Even if something bad happens, if we can learn something from it, the happening becomes a lesson.

Hello everyone. How are you spending a Sunday? It has been rainy recently, but Ezuko fireworks festival was held yesterday as planned thanks to the little amount of rain in the evening. I didn't go see them but I could see them from a friend's apartment where we played board games. Well, it has been rainy like a rainy season, actually raining more than the rainy season this year. What is bothering me is laundry - it doesn't get dry! I went to dry my laundry twice last week. If you don't have a dryer at home and have never been to a laundromat to dry your clothes, you should try once now that it is a good time. In most laundromats, there are big dryers and small dryers. In my case, one load of laundry gets all dry by two runs. One run takes 8 to 10 minutes depending on the dryer and it costs 100 yen a run, so it gets dry in about 20 minutes for 200 yen. Often coin slots for ones above and ones below are close, so pay attention to the letters "上(up)" and "下(down)" when inserting coins. I have made a mistake inserting 100 yen for a different dryer before. Columnar basalt caves.
