(English after each paragraph)
今日は基本をひとつだけ。 Today I will write about one basic thing you should remember. 対象物に使う助詞「を」は「が」で取って代わることができません。 ”Ga” cannot take over the place of ”wo” used for an object. たとえば For example ”ペンを忘れました” は ”ペンが忘れました” には絶対になりませんし ”あの人を知っています” は ”あの人が知っています” にはなりません。 "Pen wo wasuremashita" (I forgot a pen)can never be "pen ga wasuremashita" "Ano hito wo shitteimasu" (I know that person) can never be "ano hito ga shitteimasu." 日本語の「は」は、動作主であることがほとんど、 あるいは動作の対象や日時に付くときもあります。 しかし「が」は必ず動作主につきます。状態主といってもいいでしょう(勝手に作った言葉ですが)。 英語と並べて比較しましょう。 Most of the cases "Ha は" follows the person who takes an action in the sentence, it sometimes follows an object of the action or time. However, "ga" follows the subject in a sentence. It can also be someone or something that is in a described status. Let's compare the Japanese sentences below with the English translations. 先生は本を読みます。 The teacher reads a book.(動作主) 明日は買い物に行きます。 Tomorrow, I will go shopping. (動作主ではない) 映画館で映画を見ましたか。 -映画は見ましたが、映画館じゃありません。 Did you see a movie at a movie theater? - I did see a movie, but not in a movie theater. (動作主ではない) 先生が読みます。 The teacher reads a book. 鳥が鳴いている。 A bird is singing. 雨が降って来た。 Rain started to fall. (= it started to rain.) 日本語がわかりません。 Japanese is not comprehensible. (=I don't understand Japanese.) お茶が熱いです。 The tea is hot. カップが落ちています。 A cup is (dropped or has fallen and) on the floor. こちらはすべて、動作主、あるいは状態主です。 These are all action takers or someone/something in a status.
