Hi guys! Let me introduce a book today. My friend Carl Jenson, who lives in Amakusa, has published his photobook of Amakusa! Carl is an English teacher, but since he started taking photos as his hobby, he has participated in many photo contests and got awards in many, too. This photobook has places that I have never been to, and I was often surprised that such nice views are seen in small towns. I enjoyed seeing the photos with my husband, and my parents, who were visiting us from Amakusa. I strongly recommend this book to those from Amakusa, and those who have never been to Amakusa, too!

Hi everyone. I'm updating my blog after 4 days. There was a day when I had a running nose all day after blood donation. (note: there is no connection between my feeling bad and blood donation!) I thought I had caught a cold since it became cooler recently, but I never had a fever and I just got better and better. Phew! One of my students said he had a cold last week, and another said she has been taking medicine since the weekend. So it is a season when people can have a bad health condition. I was glad that I didn't catch a cold, but today my clothes got wet by the rain when I was coming back home by moped... Please take care of yourselves. (English below)
Blood donation is a hobby of mine. Yes, hobby. Women can donate blood up to twice a year, and this was the first time of this year for me. Except when I was abroad, I didn't fail to go twice a year (I think). I always do 400ml donation. It is said that it takes about 10 to 15 minutes for blood draw, but for me it always takes more than 20 minutes because apparently my vessels are soft. It takes about an hour and a little including the interview before blood draw and a 30 minutes rest after the blood draw. In blood center, you can have free beverages before and after blood donation. You can also much some snacks prepared at the waiting (resting) room (but you can't take them out!). I usually read comic books that are in the center. They say that the rate of blood donation from young doners is low (young means teenagers and 20's and 30's), so if you're interested in blood donation, you should go to the blood center in the compound of Japan Red Cross hospital in Nagamine, or the blood donation plaza in COCOSA (shopping building) in Shimotori arcaide. However, if you are a foreigner, you need to know good enough Japanese because all the guide and interview on the computer will be done in Japanese and you need to know disease names and stuff. The photo below is of a free magazine from the blood center and toothpaste as a thank-you. |
